Webinar: Government Travel - Beyond the Meeting: Understanding Federal Transient Travel

Includes a Live Web Event on 10/13/2026 at 1:00 PM (EDT)

Government travel extends far beyond meetings and events. This session takes attendees inside the world of federal transient lodging and the programs, policies, and trends that influence where and how federal travelers stay.

Designed for government meeting professionals who may be less familiar with the transient side of federal travel, this session will explore the federal lodging landscape and the role of FedRooms and DoD Preferred in supporting government travelers and agencies.

Attendees will learn how hotels become part of these programs, how the annual RFP and hotel selection process works, and how federal per diem rates influence hotel pricing and traveler decisions. We’ll also discuss current trends affecting government lodging, the growing role of technology and AI, and what hotels and government travel professionals should be watching as the federal travel environment continues to evolve.
Topics will include:

  • The federal transient travel and lodging landscape
  • FedRooms and DoD Preferred: how the programs work and why they matter
  • How hotels are sourced, evaluated, and selected through the RFP process
  • Understanding federal per diem rates and their impact on lodging
  • Current trends influencing government travel and traveler behavior
  • Technology and AI in government lodging
  • What we're seeing today—and where federal lodging is headed next

Attendees will leave with a better understanding of how the transient side of federal travel connects to the broader government travel ecosystem and why it matters to meeting professionals, hotels, suppliers, and federal travelers alike.
